`/nonexistent' is up to date.
ERROR: [depends.mk] A package matching ``lua53-lpeg-[0-9]*'' should

ERROR:     stale work directory for ../../devel/lua-lpeg?

/nonexistent is some kind of fallback value when things go wrong in resolving a dependency. This means that it tried to resolve a dependency to lua53-lpeg in devel/lua-lpeg but was unable to do so. For instance, if the work directory over there contains files for, say, lua52-lpeg.
