Upon reflection I'm going to postpone this to after the branch.  I'd
like some time to pursue making it work with fewer patches to dash,
which as a side-effect would mean we can bootstrap using the native
dash on Debian/Ubuntu.

As part of this I'll set up a new bulk build on Ubuntu 14.04.

Please keep your comments coming though, they are useful and will help
us get a better implementation in the end.
