make(distinfo) checks - make question

Various packages have conditional DISTFILES+= also wrapped in
make(distinfo) checks, so they are automatically pulled in when 'make
distinfo' is run.

This is great, but fails when 'make mdi' is run, or presumably 'make makesum'.

What would be a sane way to generalise this? Maybe by having 'make
mdi' and other aliases set some make flag to define make(distinfo), or
maybe have them all define 'INCLUDE_ALL_DISTFILES' and key off that?
