I'd like to propose setting X11_TYPE=modular for NetBSD. It is convenient to have packages for X11 that don't depend on a base system. It is convenient to be able to upgrade or maintain individual dependencies. I think that users of xsrc can still use their X server and installed X without much problem of using binary packages built with X11_TYPE=modular.
I strongly agree with that. Xorg is moving fast, and I dropped base's Xorg for pkgsrc's some months ago, that made my life a lot easier; for example, I recently upgraded both xf86-video-ati and intel for two NetBSD workstations of mine, all went smoothly thanks to the modularity of our packages. FWIW, Guillaume and I are running bulk builds[1] with modular enabled and everything runs just perfectly, I don't have the feeling we get more broken packages than with base's Xorg.
