I think then it might be time for you to keep an old vlc08 package
around too, because if this is not buildable in pkgsrc, what's the
point of having it there? :)
I guess it depends on whether a small non-Qt version is useful to anyone
else (in which case a relevant ffmpeg could be imported). I find the
skins2 interface works well and you can even remove wxWidgets if
you don't need file open dialogs.
I do have some code to work around the ffmpeg swscale removal with a view
to allowing it to use new ffmpeg, but I don't yet know whether that is
