rpm2pkg incantation of install(8)

Hi,

building rpm2pkg on a netbsd-5 machine fails with

[...]

=> Creating installation directories

/var/obj/pkgsrc/pkgtools/rpm2pkg/work/.destdir/usr/pkg/sbin/rpm2pkg
/usr/bin/install  -N /usr/src/etc -c  -r -o hf -g spgmit -m 755  -s rpm2pkg
/var/obj/pkgsrc/pkgtools/rpm2pkg/work/.destdir/usr/pkg/sbin/rpm2pkg
install: unknown group spgmit
*** Error code 1

since the group information comes via NIS, while install is directed to
/usr/src/etc.

Can anybody explain the reasoning behind the above "-N /usr/src/etc"?
