www/neon autoconfig problems

Packaging www/neon fails on my Mac because files 
share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES/neon.mo are missing. This is because neon decides to 
build without nls. This is because it can't figure out which library to link 
against for bindtextdomain(). This is because it tries libintl, but not both 
libintl and libiconv.
Any ideas how to fix this? I'm not familiar enough with GNU autohell to dig 
further into the issue.
