So this is almost certainly the immediate answer to your question:
there's something wrong with the NetBSD implementation of AES.
Furthermore, since it's probably the same source code, the issue is
likely to be configuration options.  It's also likely not the network
itself (though running ttcp would help verify that).

The thread should probably move off of tech-net (after that
verification) and move to, say, tech-security or tech-userlevel, I
suspect.
