That sparked memories... I had a vague memory of running something like
that on netbsd mac68k way back, since the (framebuffer-based) console
was woefully slow, and X maybe wasn't supported? Trawling the internet,
it was called "dt", originally written by Lawrence Kesteloot and
Valtteri Vuorikoski. While I can find dead links to a dt-1.1.5.tar.gz,
I appear to have only kept 1.1.4, circa 1996. However, scanning
ftp.netbsd.org, I've found 1.1.7:

ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/distfiles/dt-1.1.7.tar.gz
