drivers (not?) utilising pcidevs data

Hello again,
We populate device entries in pcidevs yet it's common to find the device
information not used when looking at dmesg output (entry for a piece of
hardware exists in pcidevs but kernel reports bare vendor & device id).
Is this intentional?
