Well, it is not just a generic driver, I think. exactly how? it's a front-end to a back-end. that's exactly what most of the code in sys/dev is right now. compare it to ld.c or audio.c or video.c, etc. the magic word you used is "driver". drivers do not belong in sys/kern. they belong in sys/dev. .mrg.
