Do you have any evidence to back that up?

Here's perl built on 4.0 and running in a 4.0 chroot with -current kernel,
and with the drop-in compat libpthread I mentioned earlier:

# perl -v 
This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i386-netbsd-thread-multi
