From last I remember it was considered broken on SMP (with noted
symptom of "random kernel memory corruption").  I however see that on
-current the code changed since then (locking macros no longer seem to
be noops, so it could be better).  I use it on a uniprocessor system
without problems on netbsd-4 however, where the locking macros still
seem noops...
