Although I agree that ideally XVideo functionality still should be
available, have you also tried -vo gl or -vo gl2?  These should also
allow to zoom with hardware acceleration now that you have working
drm(4)...

I also recommend posting about the XV issue on tech-x11 mailing list
if possible.
