I don't have any particular idea how to handle the issue, but
I'd say sources should be changed after proper API is (re)defined.

At least current aprint(9) family is not the one even if
it's outdated as you said.

As I wrote before, I changed printf(9) in functions only invoked
from config_foo() to aprint(9) (though there mighe be some botches).
