what's unclear?
how your change hides bugs, or why it's a disadvantage?

if the former, i meant
"appease coverity without fixing/checking potential bugs"
== "hide them from coverity".

(as you didn't answer my question explicitly,
i'm assuming your change didn't fix any real problems.
correct me if wrong.  sorry if it's the case.)
