for the benefit of NFS clients and copying around /usr/pkg itself rather than a bunch of binary packages, i've _always_ symlinked /var/db/pkg to /usr/pkg/etc/pkg. sharing this with syspkg would really not work well for me. (points about multiple pkgdb dirs taken and agreed with.) .mrg.
