Wow.  OK, so this bug was probably part of your problem then.  I didn't
expect this was a bug anyone was even running into in practice.  I
didn't even go looking for it -- just noticed it in the code while doing
the absolute event stuff.  mmm, lucky :-)

However, there has to be something else going on to be getting those
bizarre event types in the first place...
