sync up rcsid stuff with export versions
add -lcrypt to Makefile
undo incorrect change on gethostbyname/gethostbyaddr stuff. It's now:
        If passed an IP address, convert it to hostname with
gethostbyaddr() and use that for credentials. 
        If passed a hostname, canonicalize it with gethostbyname() and
use that name for credentials.
