 Out of curiosity I downloaded the `mopd' source package from Debian and 
they use the same patches, so you may get ELF support with the package 
already just by choosing the right distribution, no need to fiddle with 
sources (although I can see they have removed, probably by mistake, FDDI 
support and maybe some other stuff with a later patch merging in 2.5.4 
updates).
