Re: SUN Ultra 5 HDD compatibility

From my last experiments, I've come to the conclusion that this is a
PCI 2.0 vs. PCI 2.1 issue. I have a SATA card that the U5 just "does
not see" but works nicely in an U30. It's not a sparc specific
problem,
a PentiumIII PC of similar age with a 440BX chipset doesn't "see" the
card either.

IIRC the U5/U10 doesn't like 3.3v only PCI cards. Neither do older
Macs for example.
The U60 ( and probably the U30 ) has a 3.3v/66MHz slot so these cards
can work.

I seem to remember that the 3.3v-only cards are coded, so they don't
even fit into a 5v-only slot. (And I think I've checked this when I
was fighting with this specific card, last year, and came to the
conclusion that it must have been something different -> new theory:
PCI 2.0 vs. PCI 2.1).

Look for the notches in the card-edge connector. If the notch is on the bracket end, it's a 3.3V-only card. If the notch is away from the bracket end, it's a 5V-only card. If both notches are present, it's a "universal" card that supports both voltages.
