The ld.script may or may not be under the GPL (implicitly), but I don't
see that being a problem since gas/gcc are GPL, too, as is the gnu
linker which we are obviously using.

I specifically asked Paul if he'd put a BSD copyright on hack-coff for
us back when I was able to spend some time on this (I got about as far
as y'all have--the boot loader runs, but doesn't boot the kernel on my
8500).

Sorry I've been out of touch in this discussion--I've been out of town
for three weeks (and I'm getting ready to move cross-country and change
jobs so I can't take much part in this right now)-:  I was to the point,
though, where I was ready to ditch OF and use it only minimally--writing
native device drivers for the hardware, as needed.
