True, but latency shouldn't be that much different from 100 MBit or
even Gigabit ethernet. And i suspect that latency and random access is
what really counts for pkgsrc work.

Depends i guess. Did all Q610 come with AAUI? I have a C610 without,
it might be possible that they sold some Quadras without it too.

My problem is that i don't have the hardware. And i don't have the
funds to blow ridiculous amounts of money at bidding wars with
,,collectors'' at Ebay either.

So, either i forget the whole idea, stick to the software side, or
build a franken-cluster made of a LC475 and C610 without FPU and a
Q650. :)
