rpi cm4 + waveshare mini base board B stops after kernel load

I am seeing the same symptom as the two postings referenced in the
following README
at https://github.com/ebijun/NetBSD/blob/master/RPI/RPIimage/Image/aarch64/README
from 2021:
- rpi cm4 + waveshare mini base board B seems stop after kernel load
- fixed: To use USB, set UEFI+FDT

I am using recent build 2024-06-19-netbsd-raspi-aarch64.img, and I see
a hang here:
    Press return to boot now, any other key for boot prompt
    booting netbsd - starting in 0 seconds.

hardware:
Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 CM4108008
Waveshare CM4-IO-BASE-B
UEFI Firmware v1.37

The README implies that it should work, so perhaps there is something
I need to configure?
