SSDs are usually not power hungry, but this also depends on size.

I use a Samsung T5 512GB (3.4W Peak, 2.8W Busy) with a Pi4 and
a SANDisk Portable SSD 240GB with a Pi2 (~ 2W) . Both bus-powered.

Obviously your power supply has to drive the Pi and everything connected,
including the SSD. On Pi1 and Pi2 with old firmware you may need to
enable 'max_usb_current=1'.
