startxfce4 does just that.

For xdm you

create a symlink $HOME/.xsession -> /usr/pkg/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc
Modify /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config by adding:
DisplayManager*authName: MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1

Don't start dbus as a system daemon.
