Regarding the X server support, right now I'm directly using the epfb device through ioctl (see epio.h) with custom software. As I said - if your CPU understands ARMv4 you can try the xserver.tgz package from NetBSD/shark, it contains XFree86 and the wsfb driver which gives you unaccelerated X in whatever video mode / colour depth epfb set up. Otherwise it's pretty much trivial to enable building the same on evbarm, just do what shark does ( as in - grep for 'shark' in src/x11/ Makefiles and add your platform ). To make build.sh happy you'd have to add a bunch of entries to the file lists too but that's not necessary to get things built.
