I have successfully booted NetBSD on a DEC 3000/500. In the beginning I was
having problems because of out of date SRM firmware. The problems that your
experience seem similar.
This page advises you to make sure you have the latest SRM firmware:
Which is available from:
All you need to do, is download the m300_v7_0.btp in to your /tftpboot
directory. Set up bootp & tftp on the linux server.
Then boot your Alpha server with 'boot ez0' and update & verify your
firmware installation. Re-boot the alpha.
Then continue following the Diskless booting procedure.
NOTE: if it still will not load the firmware via bootp, then you need to
create a firmware installation floppy, or tape.
