I believe, I can't have an arbitrary mix of both systems - pkgin and
pkgsrc, particularly if I can't keep all package options same as pkgin.
Hence would preferably not venture into that.

Tried it on one dep, but doesn't seem to work:

    # pkg_add -fu gd-2.3.3nb14.tgz
    pkg_add: Package `jpeg-9f' conflicts with `libjpeg-turbo-[0-9]*', and `libjpeg-turbo-3.1.0nb1' is installed.
    pkg_add: Installed package `libjpeg-turbo-3.1.0nb1' conflicts with `jpeg-[0-9]*' when trying to install `jpeg-9f'.
    pkg_add: Can't install dependency jpeg>=9, continuing
    pkg_add: Missing dependency jpeg>=9 ignored
    pkg_add: Expected dependency jpeg>=9 still missing
    pkg_add: 1 package addition failed
