I'd like to get this diff applied to pkgsrc now.

When this was discussed, there was one opposing voice (due to the
rust-unportability-and-'slippery slope' argument) and a couple more
voices for adding it (since at least official bulk builds will be
using the standard tools anyway, we'll quickly notice when we're
slipping).

Now is a good time because the branch has just been cut and we'll have
a couple months to find out if there are any new problems caused by
this, before the next branch.
