pkgsrc status with FreeBSD

What is the current status of pkgsrc on FreeBSD?

I saw pkgsrc/bootstrap/README.FreeBSD .

I currently have an installation

FreeBSD amelia 11.1-STABLE FreeBSD 11.1-STABLE #4: Sun Jul 30 17:28:39 UTC 2017 root@amelia2:/usr/obj/BETA1/usr/src11/sys/SANDY11NC amd64

but might want to rebuild FreeBSD-current.

Present outdated installation of FreeBSD-current, from May 2019, was unable to connect to the internet, but there were improvements in the ethernet and wireless drivers for FreeBSD-current but not 12-stable.

Only thing useful in that installation is efibootmgr in the base system.

Would I need to install any version of gcc, or would I use the base-system clang? This would be for amd64.

Tom
