Non-standard options of package dependencies

Hi,

is there a way a package can force a package it depends on to be built 
with a non-standard option, or does this strictly require manual 
intervention?

I am working on upgrading www/php-glpi. v9.5 uses 
MYSQLI_OPT_INT_AND_FLOAT_NATIVE, which databases/php-mysqli will only 
provide when built with the mysqlnd option.
