PREFER_PKGSRC and luatex dlopen dependency

I have set PREFER_PKGSRC at bootstrap owing to several linking issues
faced on Linux. But now I face the following error with luatex. (Wasn't
facing this when I wasn't setting PREFER_PKGSRC).

ERROR: This package has set PKG_FAIL_REASON:
ERROR: luatex-1.12.0 requires a working dlopen().

How should I go about this?
