Don't know. As of the versions in pkgsrc-2020Q1, my gtk3-using applications
(gnumeric, evince3) seem still to be capable of printing using an arbitrary
print program (lpr, a2ps, etc.).
I explicitly build with PKG_DEFAULT_OPTIONS+=-cups (among other -foo).
"x11/qt5-qtbase" supports a "cups" option. Haven't looked deeper, but
perhaps without it, there's no printing to a real printer for QT
