I used pkgsrc on SPARC Solaris 11 and it bootstrapped OK, but I kind of
gave up because many packages failed to build on Solaris. Everybody is
using Linux these days and it seems many people don't seem to care
about portability. For example, Perl used to build without any issues
on Solaris years ago, but recently when I tried it, it had failures.

Anyway, I think gcc-4 is too old, you need to build latest gcc yourself,
then use it to bootstrap pkgsrc. It's a long process but I have some
notes and bootstrap gcc compiler I can share.
