In meson.build, I see:

   619  if host_system == 'darwin'
   620    add_languages('objc')
   621    objcc = meson.get_compiler('objc')

so at this distance it looks like a meson+clang problem

> Target: x86_64-apple-darwin18.7.0

Does setting environment variables CC=clang  CXX=clang++  help?
