cups build options leaking into packages depending on cups?

Hi,

I have been for a while dabbling with cups, mdnsresponder and avahi to 
set up a netbsd machine as airprint server - no success, so far.

Anyway, building cups with avahi in addition to mdns (what exactly is 
the relationship between the two?), I find that netatalk22 which uses 
cups will somehow inherit the latter's build options and attempt to 
enable avahi even if not configured for mdns. netatalk22 currently does 
not support building with avahi, so its build breaks.

Is this build option leaking a known phenomenon, or a bug? And how can 
I disable it?
