Does this suggest that something is nonworking in module "glx"?  Or maybe xauth?

No, nothing looks wrong there.

I used the same xorg.conf that worked with the previous Xorg installation.

Can you try without configuring Xorg at all? (eg renaming xorg.conf)

These days Xorg should not need any explicit configuration at all anymore.
