Audio output from firefox

Sometime recently (in early- to mid-February timeframe), firefox has 
stopped producing any audio output.  Other audio players (such as 
multimedia/gmplayer) work fine, so I don't think it is a problem with 
the kernel or device driver.

FWIW, I'm currently using an amd64-7.99.59 kernel (from February 15), 
with firefox-52.0, but I'm pretty sure the problem also existed with 
firefox-51.0.1
