pkg_info: option requires an argument -- e

I'm really not sure what I did to mess up my pkgsrc installation on
NetBSD -current. The last things I know was I did a 'make search' and
then the next day I deleted the resulting INDEX file.

Now every time I do a 'pkg_chk -u -q' I get a bunch of:

# pkg_chk -u -q
pkg_info: option requires an argument -- e
usage: pkg_info [-BbcDdFfhIikLmNnpqRrSsVvX] [-E pkg-name] [-e pkg-name]
                [-K pkg_dbdir] [-l prefix] pkg-name ...
       pkg_info [-a | -u] [flags]
       pkg_info [-Q variable] pkg-name ...
pkg_info: option requires an argument -- e
usage: pkg_info [-BbcDdFfhIikLmNnpqRrSsVvX] [-E pkg-name] [-e pkg-name]
                [-K pkg_dbdir] [-l prefix] pkg-name ...
       pkg_info [-a | -u] [flags]
       pkg_info [-Q variable] pkg-name ...

I tried rm -rf'ing /usr/pkgsrc and reextracting, but that didn't help.
/var/db/pkg seems fine though, so I'm not sure where else to look?

Thanks!
