NoAccel doesn't seem to make a difference (I should scrutinize the logs
more, I think, to be sure). Option "AccelMethod" "XAA" crashes the X
server! I should get to run Xorg in gdb to see more details.

What I want to try is to run the old 5.1 Xorg server. I got it done
partially, the main binary runs (and for most shared libraries it uses a
lower major version, so it isn't complicated by possibly different minor
versions), but the modules from 6.0 won't work with it, so I'll have to
tell it to use a different module path.

Another thing I want to try is a more -current Xorg.

Possibly, although many followups seem to go in the direction of Cairo,
and that isn't what changed in my setup. (It might be relevant if there
is a cairo bug that was hidden before and only now gets exposed)
