I have regularly had trouble starting xend with no bridging interface
readily configured; the following did the trick usually:
# echo up > /etc/ifconfig.bridge0
However on my latest tests on 6.0_RC1 xend was never starting
automatically. For some reason calling this directly did the trick:
# /usr/pkg/sbin/xend start
I have yet no idea why it didn't work directly from the rc script.
Maybe this will also help in your case.
