For now, I have reverted this package to the previous stable branch,
2011Q2, in which startup-notification has version 0.10. That worked for
the time being.

0.10 is 2 releases back, but 0.11 apparently had a different ABI than
0.10 which was fixed again in 0.12, according to the change log at
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/startup-notification.

I hope that upstream is not going to propose that as a permanent fix
though.
