RE: cannot open pkgdb

I've re-bootstrapped with this var set, and the first couple subsequent 
packages (digest, tnftp) seem to have built and installed okay.  I'm going to 
build gcc44 next and see what happens.

*pause*

Now I'm back to the other problem I'd experienced earlier, where the hash 
produced by digest is wrong (causing the build to stop), while the hash 
produced by the native sha1sum is correct.
