Several problems with Gnome 2.18/pkgsrc2007/Q3 on macppc

Hi,

the last days I have compiled the whole meta-pkgs/gnome tree from
pkgsrc-2007-Q3 under NetBSD/macppc. I also learned from other
postings on the list that I no longer have to start Gnome by
"exec gnome-session", but by "dbus-launch gnome-session" in
.xsession/.xinitrc. I also installed and activated the required
daemons (/etc/rc.d/ and /etc/rc.conf), like dbus, famd, nmbd,
smbd.

Now, whenever I start a web-browser like Firefox or Epiphany and
type in the URL of some site, the program connects and starts
loading for a second before it completely freezes at nearly 100%
cpu-load. The window is no longer refreshed, I cannot open a menu
or click onto a link or a widget. I can only kill it.

But when running those browsers under a different window manager,
like twm, or when I start Gnome with "exec gnome-session" (which
causes lots of other problems, like missing icons and themes)
they do work! Absolutely stable! What can it be?

Apart from that Gnome 2.18 seems to be generally unstable to me.
Nautilus crashes when I choose to view the details instead of icons.
Many other programs crash as well (I could make a list, when
required). I'm just happy that the gnome-terminal works.

Although I doubt that the platform has anything to do with it:
I'm running NetBSD 3.1.1_PATCH on a PowerMac G4 with 1.25 GB RAM.

Anybody else with similar problems?
What am I missing?
Any hints?

Thanks in advance.
