Here the defect is in distribution method suggested by DragonFly.
If one uses distribution methods suggested by pkgsrc rather than those
suggested by DragonFly, it is possible to setup KRB5_DEFAULT as usual.
There's no reason to "solve the conflict" just because one platform
organizes their work differently and sometimes incompatibly.
It is especially so when the solution implies either fundamental changes
or crude hacks.
