It would help prboom starters at least.

Only if I had too much time, unfortunately.
But there is more software which is not 64-bit clean, and
there are ONLY_FOR/NOT_FOR flags to deal with this.

Well, I don't want to sound pathetic, but doom was a milestone
in graphics programming as it got good 3d(-like) projection with
simple hardware, and it was a precedent where a game software
company released its sources to the public.
There was a considerable effort to make these sources useful on
standard Unix machines, visible in our "patches" subdir.
We are not the Smithsonians or the Munich "German Museum", but
if noone else does, we should just keep it. It costs some
kilobytes of disk space.

But generally, while pkgsrc should _offer_ the users a broad
choice of software, it should not _limit_ them to something
selected by maintainers. Everytime you remove a pkg which
was useful, even if you could not imagine, someone out there gets
pissed off rather than being motivated to follow your plans.

best regards
