prboom doesn't come with a .wad file, so it doesn't work
out of the box. xdoom comes with the doom1 one which
is freely redistributable.

I generally think it is wrong to tell users what to use.
There might be good reasons to use software which others
consider useless, and if it is for amusement or educational
purposes. doom is certainly of some historical interest.
