 I can't easily send a diff (other than by making the change again to a
 fresh copy of the sources) - my version has myriad changes, but for this
 one, all I did was add
 
        unset DISPLAY
 
 between the args="$*" line and the beginning of the definition of the
 internal readconf() function.
