If it's any help, Antti Kantee directed me to a bsdi-mtvp he has gotten
to work and has made available at

http://www.iki.fi/pooka/NetBSD/mtvp-working.tar.gz

It will send sound to standard out, so you'll have to deal with it through
mpg123 or whatever you prefer.
